A Dutch theme park empties its rides for one weekend a year and lets Lowlands take over instead: three days, one wristband, everything from headline rock to a comedy tent and actual literature readings, forty miles outside Amsterdam. It calls itself a backpacker's paradise and mostly earns it. Weekend passes run 365 euros, camping and the shuttle bus from Lelystad station included, no day tickets sold. Gates open the Thursday before if you want the full run of it.
