Europe's 2026 sleeper map added five routes and lost ten, and the difference is who pays: a route on its own fares survives, a route on a subsidy can vanish in a French autumn.
How I read it before booking:
- European Sleeper's Paris-Berlin is back, from 49.99 euros, three nights a week, funded by 4,000 small shareholders, not a ministry
- From July 13 it adds a Hamburg-Harburg stop; from September 9 comes Brussels-Milan
- The Paris-Vienna and Paris-Berlin Nightjets ended when France pulled the subsidy, not for empty trains (70 percent occupancy in 2024)
- Stockholm-Narvik lost its direct sleeper; ride to Boden and change
- Spain scrapped its sleepers in 2020 and still has none
