The travel trade crowned Argentina 2026's rising star, but the peso ended the bargain, and the 2026 rebound only claws back a dismal 2025. The World Travel Awards top prize went to Peru; Buenos Aires won only the city category.
What actually holds up is Patagonia demand, spilling out of Chile's fully booked Torres del Paine into Argentina's walk-up trails.
- A Buenos Aires coffee now costs more than one in Barcelona or Paris; the blue-dollar discount is gone.
- Torres del Paine needs refugio bookings 4 to 6 months ahead; El Chaltén does not.
- El Chaltén is no longer free: 50,000 pesos, about 33 dollars, since June 2026.
- Go November to March; fly into El Calafate; budget 10 to 12 days for both sides.
Go for the mountains, not the discount.
