The year's marquee hotel openings are mostly old buildings refilled as rooms: a doge-making family's palace, a bank's vault, a school in a geisha quarter. The trade calls it adaptive reuse, and what you book is the building's old life, restaged.
What you can actually sleep in, and when:
- Venice: the Danieli reopens as a Four Seasons in August, stays bookable now from August 26.
- Kyoto: Capella opened in March on the site of a century-old school; open now.
- Rome, London, Lisbon: Rosewood, a Waldorf Astoria inside Admiralty Arch, and a Six Senses are all due later in 2026, dates still soft.
- Paris: Louis Vuitton ruled out its hotel; that landmark becomes a store instead.
Kyoto is open and Venice takes the booking. The rest are still becoming something else.
