Two different breaks share one word. Fast Company defined a micro-retirement as one to two weeks off. The months-long version comes from an HSBC survey screened for $100,000 to $2 million in investable assets.
- Affluent US investors in that survey want about $530,000 saved first, want 6 to 12 months off, and name 46 as the age for a first break.
- The much-quoted 37 percent is 37 percent of US respondents inside that panel, not of young workers.
- Meanwhile Bankrate finds only 30 percent of Americans say they would cover a $1,000 emergency from savings.
The half-million buys the cushion, not the break.
