A third of Americans who know their devices ship with AI do not want it, and Circana found their top reason is not fear but that they simply do not need it.

This is a reasoned minority, not a revolt: 65 percent of aware consumers still want AI on at least one device. But the holdouts have a point.

  • Nearly two-thirds say their device already does what they need.
  • 59 percent cite privacy; anything sent to a server can be breached or subpoenaed.
  • 43 percent will not pay extra, and features like Google's AI Pro run $19.99 a month once the free window closes.

You are allowed to be in the third. Buy the phone for the camera and battery, and tap the small gray skip button.
